August 2013
Aly Started Pre-K
August was a super busy and important month for us. Aly
started Pre-K Aug. 7 this year. She is going to Great Beginnings right here by
the house. It was really sad dropping her off on the Tuesday before at Shannon ’s for the last time. I cried a little when I
left. Shannon and her whole family have been such a huge, positive influence on
Aly’s life and it was hard to know that was coming to an end. While we were
excited for this new chapter in Aly’s life it was sad at the same time.
We had Aly’s open house the week before and met her teachers
and got to see her room. They had all the kids go in the room to play while the
parents had a meeting outside, and big surprise Aly was the only one screaming,
but the teachers handled it well and before we knew it she was playing and
having a blast. We knew this was going to be a hard transition for her because
she hadn’t been around that many kids he age with out me or Shannon so it was
going to be interesting.
Her first day of school went pretty well. She did cry when I
dropped her off and it was hard to leave her crying but I called around 9:00
and Ms. Nicole said she was doing great and having a blast. She goes to the
back building at the center for after care and that was another big hurdle for
her and she didn’t want to leave her new teachers when she finally got
comfortable with them for another new place.
Now that we are over a month in, she is loving it and doing
so great. She still cries on random days but has so much fun. They do a lot of
singing because she comes home each day with a new song (days of the week,
seasons of the year, months of the year, 5 senses, etc). She is learning so
much. Just about every day when we are home she is playing school with her
imaginary friends and she is the teacher and she goes through her whole day at
school, so I feel like I know pretty much everything that she does. They had
told us at orientation that most kids don’t show educational progression till
Jan. or so but I feel that Aly is just soaking it all up and makes me so happy
to see her developing. She did tell me the other morning that she wants to be a
teacher when she grows up. It amazes me that she is already thinking like that.
Where did my baby go??
We also had another pretty big deal; we cut Aly’s hair, A
lot! We cut about 5 inches off. She wanted to but cried at first and then she
was ok. Its super cute but still wants to be wavy like mine so we have to
straighten it a little in the mornings but its much easier to deal with then
all the curls!!
